DURHAM, N.C. – July 15, 2026 – Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) announced today that its subsidiary, Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, LLC, has been awarded a contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a novel autonomous system to rapidly detect and stop internal bleeding. The award was made under DARPA's Medics Autonomously Stopping Hemorrhage (MASH) program.

Under the program, Teledyne Scientific & Imaging will lead development of the Rapid Ultrasound Sensing and Hemostasis (RUSH) system, a noninvasive, autonomous platform designed to identify and treat life-threatening internal hemorrhage in austere environments. The system integrates advanced ultrasound imaging, artificial intelligence, and robotic control with high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to localize and stop bleeding without the need for surgical intervention.

“Uncontrolled internal bleeding remains a leading cause of preventable death in both battlefield and civilian trauma," said Dr. Patrick M. Connolly, the Director of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at Teledyne Scientific & Imaging. “Our RUSH system is designed to bring advanced, AI-driven medical capability directly to the point of injury, enabling rapid, noninvasive treatment that could significantly improve survival outcomes."

Teledyne's RUSH leverages advanced AI to precisely guide robotic arms equipped with multi-modal ultrasound. AI algorithms are also employed to detect and localize internal bleeding, and precisely control the robotic arms to guide the therapeutic ultrasound device to rapidly stop hemorrhage (hemostasis).  Operating entirely outside the body, the system reduces procedural complexity and enables rapid treatment of multiple internal bleeding sites.

“RUSH draws on Teledyne's expertise in AI-enabled sensing and autonomy, biomedical technologies, and complex system integration to deliver a fundamentally new approach to trauma care," said Dr. Connolly. “By combining non-invasive sensing with autonomous robotic intervention, we aim to significantly reduce the burden on medics while enabling faster and more effective hemorrhage control."

If successful, the RUSH system could transform trauma care for both military and civilian applications by enabling rapid, noninvasive treatment for severe internal bleeding in the torso—one of the most difficult and deadly types of injuries to address.
